Defense Stocks Fall on Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks -- Market Talk

0907 GMT - European defense stocks fall after President Trump spurred fresh optimism for an end to the war in Ukraine following talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky over a possible peace deal. Italian manufacturer Leonardo is the biggest faller in the Stoxx 600 dropping 3.9%. Rheinmetall lead the German DAX fallers--down 2.15%. Trump said both Russia and Ukraine want to make a deal after speaking with both countries' leaders Sunday, though the president acknowledged that significant hurdles remain. In the U.K., defense firms Babcock and BAE Systems drop 2.3% and 1.5%, respectively. Stockholm-listed SAAB drops 2.4%. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
