US Cash Grains-Corn basis steady-down, soy basis flat

CHICAGO, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn were steady to lower, while the soy basis was mostly flat in the U.S. Midwest on Monday, in slow trade at the beginning of the week.

  • More locations have rolled their soybean basis bids to the Chicago Board of Trade March SH26 contract as the January contract SF26 approaches its January 14 expiration.

  • CBOT corn and soybean futures ticked higher on Monday on positioning during the first full trading week in the new year.

  • An uptick in CBOT prices may encourage farmer selling of old crop soy and corn.

  • As of midday, CBOT March corn CH26 was up 4-3/4 cents at $4.42-1/2 a bushel, and March soybeans SH26 were up 13 cents at $10.58-3/4 a bushel.
