Shell Issues Worse-Than-Expected Trading Update -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-08

0818 GMT - Shell had a rough end to the year, RBC Capital Markets analysts Biraj Borkhataria and Adnan Dhanani write. The British oil major's trading update is likely to weigh on earnings and cash flow estimates, they add. Management had warned of a relatively weak quarter but it appears worse than expected, the analysts say. The key question now is whether management will look past the weak quarter and maintain its $3.5 billion quarterly buyback, they add. Shell shares fall 1.6% to 2,612.50 pence.
