NRG Energy has designated 25-year veteran Robert Gaudette to succeed Lawrence Coben at the helm of the energy company later this year.

NRG on Wednesday said Gaudette, who had been serving as executive vice president and president of business and wholesale operations, is immediately assuming the post of president from Coben and will become chief executive of the Houston company on April 30.

Coben, who has been an NRG board member since 2003 and chairman since 2017, was named president and CEO in August 2024 after serving as interim CEO since November 2023.

NRG said Coben will remain chairman and CEO until April 30, the date of the company's annual shareholder meeting, then serve as an adviser for the rest of the year.

NRG said Antonio Carrillo, a board member since 2019 who serves as lead independent director, will succeed Coben as chairman on April 30, adding that Gaudette will join the board on that date.

Gaudette joined NRG in 2001 from a predecessor company.
