1023 ET - Cal-Maine Foods' sales mix is shifting away from traditional eggs, toward premium egg varieties and prepared foods. That's all by design. "It's a direct reflection of the deliberate execution of our long-term strategy, and we believe our results continue to reinforce just how effective that approach will be in pursuit of operational and financial excellence," CEO Sherman Miller says on a call with analysts. Specialty eggs, such as cage-free and organic varieties, drove a greater portion of total egg sales in F2Q, up to 44%, compared with about 32% a year ago. Combined, specialty eggs and prepared foods accounted for just under half of Cal-Maine's net sales. Cal-Maine Foods falls 5% after F2Q sales fall. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
