Information technology stocks jumped over 2% at midday Wednesday, after both the S&P 500 and Dow Jones hit fresh records.

Australia's consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.4% in the 12 months to November 2025, easing from a 3.8% increase in the year to October 2025, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Macquarie Technology Group (ASX:MAQ) said Chair Peter James will retire after the release of the company's half-year results in February. Lisa Brock will succeed James as chair.

On the flip side, the energy sector fell more than 2%, after Brent crude futures fell 1.7% to $60.70 per barrel.

Energi (ASX:TDO) said that elevated gas readings and log resistivity at its Charlemont-1 gas exploration well in Victoria are consistent with probable hydrocarbon presence. Further wireline logging is required to evaluate the nature and extent of the hydrocarbons.
