Constellation Brands Says Hispanic Consumers Remain Careful on Spending -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-09

1127 ET - Constellation Brands is continuing to struggle due to a pullback in spending from its Hispanic consumer base. The beer category "still remains challenged and it's largely around the Hispanic consumer," says Chief Executive Bill Newlands on the company's earnings call. Zip codes with more than 20% Hispanic representation remain "very challenging" even as demand in other zip codes improves, he says. "They're being much more careful about their spending patterns, spending much more on what you would call consumer essentials versus other categories," Newlands says, adding that "75% of Hispanic consumers are very concerned about the socioeconomic environment."(nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
