Materials Up as Gold, Silver Rally Continues -- Materials Roundup
Dow Jones01-10
Producers of metals and other raw materials rose as a precious-metals rally continued in the wake of December jobs data.
Gold futures closed at their second highest level ever.
Silver futures surged 5.6% to close within 2% of all-time highs.
Rio Tinto and Glencore fell as investors digested reports that the companies had entered talks about a merger deal that would create the world's largest miner by production.
The jobs data was seen having little impact on Federal Reserve policy plans, which could lead to a hold at the January meeting.
