The High Court of Kenya has postponed the hearing of a case that seeks to block the $2.3 billion sale of a 65% stake in Diageo's (DEO) East African Breweries unit to Asahi Holdings, Reuters reported Friday, citing a lawyer representing Kenyan distributor Bia Tosha challenging the deal.
Earlier reports said the hearing was initially scheduled on Friday, and Reuters reported that the High Court has moved the date to Jan. 20.
The case was filed by Kenyan beer distributor Bia Tosha, seeking to halt the transaction while it has a pending litigation against Diageo that dates back to 2016, according to the report.
Diageo announced the deal in December and has said it expects to close the transaction in H2.
The High Court of Kenya and Diageo did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
