Walmart Uses Price Rollbacks to Respond to Target's Wellness Expansion -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-12

1338 GMT - Walmart's rollback of prices on more than 1,000 wellness products and the launch of its Better Care Services digital wellness platform mark a response to Target's wellness expansion, say Mizuho analysts David Bellinger and Declan Kelley. "Walmart always seems to have a pre-meditated response to competitor developments, whether from Target, Amazon, or anyone else," the analysts say. Walmart's wellness business could see a comparable sales headwind as the maximum fair-price legislation lowering certain drug prices takes effect, but the health and wellness vertical remains an "emerging and high growth area" for both Walmart and Target, the analysts say.
