1209 ET - Costco's December sales numbers should quell worries about a softer performance, Oppenheimer analysts write in a note. They say that on a two-year basis, adjusted trends accelerated to 14.6%, compared with 11.6% in November and 12.5% in October. "We believe COST's outperformance case is now even stronger in a mixed consumer spending backdrop given the company's superior value proposition, our expectations for continued share gains across the box, and positioning to a relatively higher affluent customer," the analysts say. They add that they continue to see potential for a special dividend or stock split, which could serve as a positive catalyst. Costco climbs 5.3%. (elias.schisgall@wsj.com)
