Energy stocks were declining premarket Thursday, with the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) down 1%.
The United States Oil Fund (USO) was 1.3% lower and The United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 1%.
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down 4.4% at $59.31 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil lost 4.2% to reach $63.72 per barrel, and natural gas futures were 0.1% higher at $3.12 per 1 million British Thermal Units.
Talen Energy (TLN) shares were up more than 9% after the company said it signed deals to acquire natural gas assets from Energy Capital Partners for $3.45 billion.
