A former UBS financial advisor team that oversaw approximately $1.3 billion in client assets left to launch a new independent practice with backing from minority investor Elevation Point.

The team, which calls its new practice Harbor View Private Wealth, says Elevation Point took a minority stake in Harbor View. Elevation Point is led by Jim Dickson, who previously founded Sanctuary Wealth, another firm that specializes in helping advisors leave national brokerage firms to open independent practices.

Harbor View is based in Atlanta and is led by founding partners Daniel Emerson, Angelo Esposito Jr., Scott Emerson, James Malatos, and David Randall, according to the firm.

"Launching an independent firm with the support of Elevation Point allows us to offer tailored solutions that go beyond traditional investment portfolios," Emerson says in a statement. "By leveraging a broad array of resources and tools, we're able to deliver comprehensive, personalized strategies that support our clients' financial goals at every stage."

Harbor View says it specializes in creating customized financial strategies for corporate executives and their families. The advisors have registered with Elevation Point's registered investment advisor. And Harbor View says it will have access to custody resources via Elevation Point's relationship with Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions.

Dickson helped launched Elevation Point 18 months ago; since then Elevation Point says it has invested in firms or advisor practices overseeing $11 billion in client assets. In addition to capital, Elevation Point also offers advisors technology, investment, and other services.

Dickson says his firm can furnish Harbor View's advisors with the resources and support they need to thrive in the independent sector. Dickson is a former Merrill Lynch executive, and Harbor View's Emerson and Esposito also did stints at Merrill before joining UBS in 2019.

A representative for UBS was unavailable for immediate comment.
