Restaurant Industry Has Mixed Views on GLP-1 Drugs -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-15

1816 ET - Restaurants shared mixed commentary related to GLP-1 drugs at the ICR Conference, Baird analysts say in a note. Darden Restaurants thinks full-service restaurants may remain relatively well insulated from rising adoption of the drugs, reasoning that GLP-1s tend to reduce impulse food purchases rather than dining out, the analysts say. Portillo's, meanwhile, acknowledges some risk from the drugs, but it's been tough to parse out the effect so far, the analysts say. "Altogether, management teams did not seem overly concerned about this topic," the analysts say, noting that companies see the potential to emphasize certain areas of their menus to respond to any changes in consumer preferences.
