Restaurants Likely to Pump the Brakes on Price Hikes -- Market Talk
Dow Jones01-15
1606 ET - Restaurants seem like they are planning to take a more moderate approach to price hikes, Baird analysts say after attending the ICR Conference. Management teams' remarks suggest that price increases in the near term would be near or even slightly under the level needed to neutralize commodity and labor inflation, the analysts say. That means restaurant margins will likely depend on traffic trends, they say. On a positive note, both Darden Restaurants and Shake Shack seem to think beef inflation could come down, and restaurants don't seem very concerned about labor inflation, they say.
