The U.S. had a budget deficit of $112 billion for December, about $14 billion less than in December of 2024, after accounting for factors such as payments made on weekends. Not counting the adjustment, the deficit was worse, rising 67% from the prior year to $145 billion.

But for the past three months, the deficit came in at $602 billion, 15% less than in the comparable period in 2024.
