Beige Book Hints Bosses Are AI-Curious -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-15

1435 ET - There's no sign in the Fed's anecdotal Beige Book that AI is broadly sucking up jobs formerly done by humans. But several snippets suggest that more businesses are exploring the idea. Across the country, "multiple contacts reported exploring AI implementation primarily for productivity enhancement." The Boston Fed reported that one area business, in IT, "paused hiring plans as it considered using AI instead." The Atlanta Fed related that several businesses said they are exploring using AI to manage headcount, although some said any significant impact is years away. The Kansas City Fed said several contacts are trying to cut costs by trimming marketing budgets, often by using AI instead of consultants. ( matt.grossman@wsj.com ; @mattgrossman)
