Cost to Build Standard Home in New Zealand Up in Q4 2025, Cotality Says

MT Newswires Live01-14

The cost to build a standard single-story brick and tile home in New Zealand rose 0.9% in the three months to December 2025, as construction costs continued to increase, according to the Cordell Construction Cost Index, compiled by property data company Cotality.

Though the pace of growth of construction costs remained contained during the quarter, it could rise again this year, the report said.

The number of new building consents, the most common measure for construction activity, fell to a range of about 33,500 to 34,000 in the second half of 2024 and first half of 2025, from a peak of over 51,000 in May 2022, the report added.

However, new building consents hit 35,500 in October, reflecting lower mortgage rates and increased availability of funds.
