Sterling Looks Expensive, Could Fall Against Cheaper Currencies -- Market Talk
Dow Jones01-13
1345 GMT - Sterling looks expensive and could underperform currencies that screen as cheap including the Canadian dollar, New Zealand dollar, euro and Swiss franc, HSBC analysts say in a note. HSBC already has an open trade idea to sell sterling against the Australian dollar as it expects soft U.K. data and further Bank of England interest rate cuts while the Reserve Bank of Australia contemplates rate rises. Its latest model results suggest selling sterling versus the Canadian dollar, New Zealand dollar and Swiss franc, while buying the euro against sterling. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
