Naver Seen Benefiting From Customer Data Breach at Coupang -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-13

0241 GMT - Naver could benefit from the recent customer data breach at rival online retailer Coupang in South Korea, Nomura analysts Angela Hong and Won Kang write in a note. Daily active users of the Korean internet-platform giant's e-commerce service, Naver Plus Store, surged by 529,000 from Dec. 1 to Jan. 8 while Coupan's DAU fell by 1.3 million during the same period. They also expect Naver's expansion of its artificial-intelligence-powered search service, AI Briefing, along with a broader advertising inventory, to support stronger monetization in 2026. Nomura raises its 2026 and 2027 net profit forecasts for Naver by 4% and 7%, respectively. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
