Corrects to 8 million metric tons, not 10 million tons, in paragraph 1

PERTH, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Japan's Inpex 1605.T has withdrawn the environmental plan for its proposed 8 million metric ton-per-year Bonaparte carbon capture and storage project off the north coast of Australia, a government website showed.
All major projects are assessed via the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation portal. The website showed Inpex withdrew the project on Sunday.
This is the second CCS plan withdrawal after ExxonMobil XOM.N pulled its Gippsland Basin plan in March 2025.
Inpex lodged a separate plan with the Northern Territory government for the onshore components of the project a week ago.
Bonaparte CCS was awarded major project status in July. The project's other partners are TotalEnergies TTEF.PA and Woodside Energy WDS.AX.
