More Australian Voters Switch Away From Major Parties -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-19

2103 GMT - The right of Australian politics continues to shift with core support for the One Nation party moving ahead of the Liberal-National coalition for the first time, as voters abandon the major parties in record numbers, according to a Newspoll published in The Australian newspaper. One Nation's primary vote has risen seven points to 22% over the past two months, with the Coalition dropping three points to a record low of 21% and the Labor government falling four points to 32%. The shift follows a major terror attack at Sydney's Bondi Beach in December. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's approval rating is now at its lowest since late 2024.
