Kroger-Uber Expanded Partnership Exacerbates Risk to Instacart -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-17

1119 ET - The expanded partnership between Kroger and Uber poses another headache for Instacart, say Wedbush analysts. Instacart has already been dealing with Amazon's expansion of same-day grocery delivery and DoorDash's extended partnership with Kroger. Now, Kroger customers will be able to get deliveries from 2,700 Kroger-owned stores through Uber's apps. "Uber's extended partnership with Kroger directly challenges Instacart's position among intermediaries," the analysts say. "In our view, Instacart is at risk of losing incremental market share to other leading intermediaries and grocers that can leverage their scale and success in adjacent categories to capture demand for online grocery and convenience."
