'Taxmas' Likely to Boost Consumer Spending on Apparel, Footwear -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-21 03:38

1438 ET - Apparel, footwear, and fitness companies may see a boost in consumer spending next month after American taxpayers receive an estimated $150 billion or more in federal income tax refunds from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Baird analyst Jonathan Komp writes in a note. He believes that investors aren't sufficiently anticipating the impact of the tax refunds on consumer spending, noting that most refunds are issued during February and March. "Assuming high propensity to spend the incremental funds (retailers have coined the term 'Taxmas' season), consumer spending appears poised to accelerate," he writes. (elias.schisgall@wsj.com)
