Market Chatter: Apple Expands Hardware Chief's Role, Hinting at CEO Potential

MT Newswires Live01-23

Apple's (AAPL) hardware chief John Ternus' role now includes design work after Chief Executive Tim Cook tapped him to oversee design teams at the end of 2025, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Ternus is now considered internally as the "executive sponsor" of all design on Cook's team, the people reportedly said, while the heads of design teams still report to Cook in both internal organizational charts and the company's public disclosures, according to the report.

This move cements Ternus' status as a top contender to eventually succeed Cook, with other potential internal CEO candidates including Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan and former COO Jeff Williams, according to Bloomberg.

Apple didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
