BASF Likely to Meet 2026 Consensus -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-23

0803 GMT - BASF's 2026 consensus looks achievable and should remain intact, Citi analysts write in a note, after the German chemical group's release of preliminary 2025 figures. Vara estimates have Ebitda at 7.1 billion euros, representing an increase of around 500 million euros on year, they note. Delivering on this outlook implies some improvement in volumes, despite management having previously guided for a weak first quarter, the analysts say. The U.S. bank still maintains that German fiscal stimulus should drive an improvement in European chemical demand in the second half of the year. By 2027, BASF has the potential to return roughly a quarter of market capitalization to shareholders through dividends and buybacks, they add. (najat.kantouar@wsj.com)
