Communications-services companies declined as traders rotated into more defensive sectors. Warner Bros.

Discovery and Netflix said they struck a new all-cash deal for Netflix to buy Warner's studios and HBO Max streaming business, replacing the original cash-and-stock deal.

Netflix shares fell in late trading even after posting a subscriber increase amid hits such as the "Stranger Things" finale.

EDO, a data, measurement and analytics software company co-founded by actor Edward Norton, was ordered to pay $18.3 million to ad-measurement firm iSpot following a lawsuit.
