Dow Jones01-23

0248 GMT - China's yuan strengthens against the dollar in offshore and onshore markets. The PBOC set today the USD/CNY fixing at 6.9929, below the 7.0000 level for the first time since May 2023, CFETS data show. "To set the fix below 7-figure is just a matter of time," two FX strategists at OCBC Group Research say in a research report before this morning's USD/CNY fixing. "When it happens, it may further add to RMB appreciation down the road," they add. USD/CNY is 0.1% lower at 6.9632 and USD/CNH is 0.05% down at 6.9597, LSEG data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
