Oracle, US Joint Venture Take Control of American TikTok Data, Algorithm, Content

Oracle (ORCL) and joint venture partners have formally taken control of TikTok's US business, in compliance with US regulatory demands, TikTok said Friday.

TikTok USDS Joint Venture is a majority US-owned business that "will operate under defined safeguards that protect national security" using data protection tools, algorithm security, and content moderation American users, the company said on Friday.

Under the deal, US user data will be stored by Oracle, while the joint venture "will retrain, test, and update" the content algorithm, the company said.

The joint venture-with Silver Lake, Oracle, and MGX each holding 15% stakes, with

Dell Family Office, the investment firm of Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies (DELL), also among the consortium of investors. TikTok owner ByteDance retaining a 19.9% stake-will be led by Chief Executive Adam Presser, a veteran of TikTok and WarnerMedia.
