DAVOS: Structural Shifts Fueling Rapid Growth in Private-Market Secondaries, EQT CEO Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-22 20:09

1209 GMT - The secondary market is one of the fastest-growing segments in private markets, driven by several structural forces, EQT Chief Executive Per Franzen says in an interview with Bloomberg at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The secondary market allows investors to actively buy and sell securities. Growth has been fueled in part by a lack of distributions in recent years, as well as longer-term trends such as the convergence between private and public markets, and the increasing size and complexity of the industry, he adds. "That is driving the need for private-market investors to also re-balance and restructure their portfolios," he says. EQT on Thursday agreed to acquire U.K.-based private-equity firm Coller Capital, which specializes in the secondary private-capital market, for up to $3.7 billion. (najat.kantouar@wsj.com)
