DAVOS: Trump Right to Point to Arctic Vulnerabilities, NATO Chief Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-21

0937 GMT - President Trump is right when he points to the growing presence of Russia and China in the Arctic region, NATO's Secretary-General Mark Rutte tells the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He acknowledges the tensions within the military alliance regarding Greenland's future status, but refuses to comment on them, calling on NATO to "collectively defend the Arctic region." Finland's President Alexander Stubb says NATO is becoming stronger as its European members take more responsibility, and notes that one million individuals within NATO have had their military training in Arctic conditions. NATO will eventually find an off-ramp to de-escalate the Greenland tensions, Stubb adds. (cristina.gallardo@wsj.com)
