Broad Market Indicators
Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM edged lower and IVV rose. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) added 0.7%.
US equity indexes rose in midday trading on Monday amid gains in communication services and technology, while gold traded above the $5,000 mark amid a decline in the dollar.
Energy
IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each shed 0.1%.
Technology
The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.
The State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.2%.
Financial
The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 1.1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), fell 1.2%.
Commodities
Crude oil slipped 0.5%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.4%. Natural gas climbed 6.3%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) gained 7.6%.
Gold on Comex was up 2.1%, and the State Street SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 2.3%. Silver climbed 13.9%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 13.2%.
Consumer
The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) dipped 0.2%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also pointed lower.
The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.5%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) rose fractionally, and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was up 0.1%.
Health Care
The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.4%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also rising. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.4%.
Industrial
The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) rose fractionally. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) was up 1%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) slipped 2.2%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) lost 1%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) fell 2.3%.
