Singapore Telecom Sector's Tight Competition Likely to Persist -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-27

0229 GMT - Competition in Singapore's telecommunications sector will likely persist in the medium term, according to RHB Research analysts. "Recent competitive maneuvers suggest an extension of value-centric offers with mainstream roaming inclusions," RHB says in a report. Mobile network operators are looking to defend and grow market share ahead of the Simba-M1 merger, for which regulatory approval is pending. Australia-listed Tuas's Simba Telecom is set to buy M1 from asset manager Keppel. RHB reckons Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority will decide if the merger goes through by 2Q. The brokerage maintains a neutral rating on Singapore's telecom sector, with Singtel as its top pick. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
