New Zealand's Total Vehicle Registrations Rise in December 2025

New Zealand's total vehicle registrations were 4.7 million in December 2025, an increase of 17,904 from the previous month, covering both six and 12-month licensing periods, data from StatsNZ showed Tuesday.

The increase was driven by rises in rental car registrations, which grew to 47,547 in the month from 46,124 in November 2025, and motorcycles, which increased to 80,077 from 75,781. Car registrations rose 4,808 month on month to about 3 million, the report said.

Compared with the year-earlier period, total vehicle registrations in New Zealand rose by 18,199 in December 2025, the report added.
