Aasma Shaukat, a physician and researcher, said she hired Alex Pretti for his first job out of college and stayed in touch with him for years. She described him as polite, passionate about healthcare and civic-minded, and recalls that he would deliver pizzas on the side to supplement his income.
"He was very enthusiastic about his patients," she said. "He didn't realize healthcare could be so rewarding, and he wanted to do more and more of it."
Shaukat added that Pretti loved the outdoors and felt a sense of injustice during the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis in 2020. "He was a good, kind citizen," she recalled.
