Following a second deadly shooting in Minneapolis, many Democratic senators said they wouldn't back any funding for the Department of Homeland Security without major reforms-setting the stage for a partial government shutdown next week, as border funding is tied to a broader spending package. Now, House progressives are pushing their Senate colleagues to drive a hard bargain.
Rep. Greg Casar (D., Texas), chair of the House progressive caucus, put out a list of key points Sunday. They include a demand that immigration-enforcement officials leave Minneapolis and other cities; a full, independent investigation into the killings in Minneapolis; and no use of masks by federal agents.
