TAL Education Shares Rise After Higher 3Q Profit, Revenue

Shares of TAL Education surged after the company posted a higher third-quarter profit and a double-digit boost in revenue.

The stock jumped 15% to $12.37 in Thursday afternoon trading. The shares have risen less than 1% in the past year.

The Chinese after-school education and tutoring company logged a profit of $130.6 million, or 23 cents per American depositary share, for the period ended Nov. 30, compared with $23.1 million, or 4 cents per share, a year earlier.

The results beat the 4 cents per share expected by Wall Street, according to FactSet.

Revenue was up 27% to $770.2 million, missing the $777.5 million expectation of analysts polled by FactSet.
