U.S. Natural Gas Inventories Fall More Than Expected -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-30

1107 ET - Gas in underground storage in the U.S. fell by 242 billion cubic feet to 2,823 Bcf last week, leaving inventories 143 Bcf above the five-year average for the time of year, the EIA reports. The drawdown was bigger then the five-year average draw of 206 Bcf, and reduced the storage surplus from 177 Bcf the week before. Analysts in a WSJ survey had expected a 233 Bcf withdrawal for last week. Next week's report is widely expected to wipe out the surplus with a possible record withdrawal as winter storm Fern boosted demand and froze in production. Nymex natural gas is up 0.6% at $3.755/mmBtu. (anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
