1058 ET - Teck Resources' CEO says Canada must do more to tap the critical minerals that offer up a "generational opportunity to reshape" the country. In a speech, Jonathan Price calls for action on three fronts. First, authorities must continue to speed up permitting for resources projects. The country must also ease infrastructure constraints, pushing rapidly for transmission lines, ports, road and rail to access vast resources often found in remote areas. Price says there is a need for public-private partnerships on strategic investment in critical minerals. Markets for some metals like germanium, antimony and gallium are too small and too exposed to manipulation to justify significant investment without a measure of government support, he says. Also, he says there are metals and minerals fundamental for defense applications and cutting-edge technologies. (robb.stewart@wsj.com)
