(NASDAQ:AMAT) is closing a regulatory chapter while doubling down on next-generation chip technology and deeper collaboration with industry leaders as AI drives unprecedented demand for advanced semiconductors.\nApplied Materials on Wednesday announced that it had settled with the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), resolving allegations that certain shipments to China between November 2020 and July 2022 did not comply with U.S. Export Administration Regulations.\nThe issue stemmed from the company's misunderstanding of how the regulations applied to those transactions.\nUnder the agreement, Applied will pay $252.5 million to the Department of Commerce. Separately, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission closed their related investigations without taking action.\nWith the matter resolved, Applied said it can now fully focus on its technology roadmap and long-term growth strategy.\nApplied held $8.57 billion in cash and equivalents as of October 26, 2025.\nAt the same time, Applied on Tuesday introduced new deposition, etch, and materials engineering systems designed to improve the performance of leading-edge logic chips at 2nm and beyond.\nThese tools aim to strengthen Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor architecture, a key shift in semiconductor design that supports more energy-efficient AI computing.\nThe new systems focus on atomic-scale improvements to transistors and interconnects.\nTogether, these systems contribute meaningfully to the energy-efficiency gains required for next-generation AI processors as 2nm-class GAA chips move into high-volume production.\nThe facility, set to open this year and become fully operational in spring 2026, will serve as the world's largest collaborative semiconductor process and equipment R&D hub.\nThe EPIC Center spans more than 180,000 square feet of advanced cleanroom space and is designed to accelerate chip development through parallel process integration and high-velocity co-innovation.\nInstead of the traditional serial development cycle that can take 10 to 15 years, the EPIC model aims to shorten time-to-market by enabling tighter collaboration across the semiconductor ecosystem.\nSamsung will participate in joint R&D programs targeting atomic-scale innovations in deposition, etch, and advanced patterning for future logic and memory technologies, multiple nodes ahead of today's production.\nAMAT Price Action: Applied Materials shares were down 1.24% at $335.68 during premarket trading on Thursday.
