Mercedes-Benz is recalling a group of electric vehicles over concerns that their batteries may fail, resulting in a fire while parked or driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said owners of these vehicles are advised to park outside and away from structures until the batteries can be replaced, and to only charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80% capacity.

The recall covers nearly 12,000 Mercedes-Benz EQB vehicles, including 250+ models manufactured between 2023 and 2024; 300 4Matic models manufactured between 2022 and 2024; and 350 4Matic models.

Dealers will replace the high voltage battery in these vehicles, free of charge, the NHTSA said.
