Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged up to 3.9% during the November 2025 to January 2026 period, up from 3.8% in October to December, according to data released Friday by the city's Census and Statistics Department.

The underemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.7% over the same period.

Total employment edged down to 3,665,900 in November to January from 3,667,000 in the prior three months, while the labor force stood at 3,804,300 compared with 3,805,200 previously.

The number of unemployed persons, not seasonally adjusted, was 138,400, compared with 138,200 in October to December.

The number of underemployed persons stood at 65,100, up from 64,800 in the preceding period.

Looking ahead, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said the sustained growth momentum of the Hong Kong economy should help support the labor market, though some sectors may remain under pressure amid challenging operating conditions.
