MDA Space, Telesat Seen Winners in New Canadian Military Strategy -- Market Talk

Dow Jones02-19

1428 ET - Canadian defense companies may be winners of Canada's latest defense strategy. ATB's David McFadgen says Ottawa's new C$6.6 billion Defence Industrial Strategy will likely ensure Canadian firms play a "central role in this generational effort to rebuild the military." McFadgen says that MDA Space and Telesat will be key strategic partners, noting both companies "would meet and deliver on several of Canada's sovereign capabilities." He sees MDA well positioned for radar satellite and naval sensor contracts, including a potential C$500 million award tied to Radarsat Constellation Mission upgrades. Telesat's Lightspeed constellation also fits Ottawa's priorities, with the Canadian military in talks to use dedicated military satellite radio capacity to support Arctic defence.
