0937 GMT - UniCredit is the only bank that has articulated in an ambitious enough way its plan to lower absolute costs, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods says in a research note. The rerating of banks has been halted by the panic around the threat of AI to their revenues, analysts write. "There is a crucial cost angle as well," they say. Besides the Italian bank, talk in banking sector earnings calls focused on cost-to-income ratio improvement. "Other banks mainly talk of positive jaws, but in our view, UniCredit is standing out as the most ambitious bank in deploying technology (including AI) to make larger cuts in costs," they note. The Italian lender plans to trim its costs by 4% in nominal terms which is equivalent to around 13% in real terms, they add. Shares are up 1.1% at 72.35 euros.(elena.vardon@wsj.com)
