IMAX (IMAX) said Monday it generated $28 million in ticket sales during the seven-day Chinese New Year holiday period.
The theater network captured 3.4% of overall box office revenue in the country despite operating less than 1% of total screens, the company said.
The racing movie "Pegasus 3" accounted for the majority of the holiday earnings by generating $24 million over its first week in theaters, IMAX said.
The martial arts film "Blade of the Guardians" and the thriller "Scare Out" contributed $3.3 million and $500,000, respectively, the company added.
"Pegasus 3" will expand to select North American, UK, Australian and New Zealand locations this week, the company said.
