Xcel Energy (XEL) is facing a temporary injunction in Texas, requiring the company to "immediately replace" damaged and dilapidated utility poles that could cause wildfires in the Texas Panhandle, according to a Monday statement from the Attorney General's office.
Attorney General Ken Paxton negotiated the agreed temporary injunction, which is effective immediately, as part of the state's action against the company in response to the 2024 Smokehouse Creek fire, the office said.
The injunction also requires Xcel Energy to inspect 35,000 poles annually within its Texas service area, according to the statement.
Xcel Energy did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
