Rayonier Advanced Materials (RYAM) shares were up by more than 44% in recent Wednesday trading after American Industrial Partners acquired a 5.1% stake in the company.

AIP purchased 3.4 million shares for roughly $25.4 million, after its unsolicited proposal to acquire the company for $11 to $12 per share was rejected in December, according to a Schedule 13D filing.

AIP said it envisions combining Rayonier with its Global Cellulose Fibers, a fluff pulp company that it acquired in August 2025, while it does not intend to pursue any deals opposed by Rayonier's board.
