Members of the gold medal-winning U.S. men's Olympic hockey team visited President Trump at the White House Tuesday afternoon, hours before his State of the Union address.
The president invited them to Washington during a celebratory locker-room call over the weekend, after their dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over Canada in Milan. The players, wearing matching navy blue Team USA Olympic sweatshirts and their gold medals, shook hands with Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
Trump had personally called the team on Sunday to congratulate them and extend an invitation to attend the address, joking that he would be impeached if he didn't also invite the U.S. women's hockey team to the speech. The women's team won their own Olympics gold medal days earlier. Trump's call was coordinated by FBI Director Kash Patel, who joined the men's locker-room celebration.
The women's team said it was grateful for the invitation but declined, citing previously scheduled commitments.
