Google Gains After Trump Directs Agencies to Stop Using Claude -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05:24

1624 ET - Shares of Google's parent rise at the end of trading day after President Trump says he is directing federal agencies to stop using Anthropic's artificial-intelligence models. Trump says on Truth Social that agencies will have a six-month phase out period, during which he says "Anthropic better get their act together" and threatens civil and criminal consequences. The AI startup said Thursday it would reject demands from the Pentagon to let the military use its Claude models in all lawful cases. If Anthropic loses its federal contracts, that could create an opportunity for competing AI models like Google's Gemini to increase their work with the federal government. Alphabet shares close up 1.4% at $311.43. (elias.schisgall@wsj.com)
