Market Chatter: US Mulls Cap on Nvidia AI Chip Sales to Chinese Firms

MT Newswires Live12:58

The Trump administration is considering restricting Nvidia's H200 AI accelerator exports to 75,000 units per Chinese customer, The South China Morning Post reported Tuesday.

Sources familiar with the matter said the proposal would also count Advanced Micro Devices' MI325 chips toward the same limit, according to the report. The restrictions aim to curb China's access to advanced semiconductors used for artificial intelligence model development.

While total shipments to China could reach 1 million units under current regulatory discussions, the per-company cap would significantly impact major buyers, the SCMP wrote.

Chinese tech giants, including Alibaba (HKG:9988) and ByteDance had privately indicated desired purchases exceeding double the proposed limit, according to the report.
